What would you like to get input from peers about in regards to the topic?

March 23, 2022
Christopher R. Teeple

Purpose: This is meant for you to think critically about the novel as you read through it. We are also trying to deepen our analytical skills and strengthen our vocabulary, so by pulling out small pieces and examining them closely and collaborating about it by asking and answering questions, we will be gaining a deeper knowledge of the material we are reviewing. This can also be beneficial when we move onto Essay 3, which will be based on themes in connection to the memoir (more directions at a later time).
Before you begin you’ll need to read The Jungle CH 1-10
STEP 1
For your FIRST digital book club, I’d like you to follow the directions below:
You will find THREE vocab words that you were unfamiliar with while reading.
Include the original sentence and page number where you found that vocab word.
Then provide a definition that you find in a dictionary.
You are to find FIVE quotes/passages that stood out to you. You will cite the quote accordingly.
As you decide which passages or paragraphs are worth going back to consider the importance about these passages in planning for your opening post. You MUST explain WHY the quote stood out to you. 1) What larger themes is each quote connecting with 2) What lessons or take aways are we supposed to get from this quote of your choice 3) How might it be relevant throughout the world/the US– try bridging larger connections
Follow EACH quote and explanation with a question that you would want to ask about that section. What would you like to get input from peers about in regards to the topic? Do you just want to see if others saw it to? Were you confused or not entirely sure how it connected with larger issues so you wanted outside input? Are you curious if anyone saw a connection with your chosen section with a different section, beginning to thread together various pieces to make a whole?
In total, you’ll THREE vocab with definitions, have FIVE quotes, FIVE explanations, and FIVE questions by the end of your post!
NOTE: Your initial post is due Friday by 11:59 pm.
