For this week’s Discussion Forum, you are to report out on a mini field-research project which involves a brief interview with an established leader with whom you are familiar. The interview will focus on the development process this leader experienced over time. You can use the following questions in your field interview:
Was your development as a leader formal (structured such as a class or workshop), informal (unstructured such as everyday experiences, observations of what other leaders did or failed to do), or both?
Did you pursue leadership development opportunities on your own, or did others present you with specific opportunities?
Were you mentored by another leader as part of your leadership development? What were the leadership insights you learned from the mentoring process?
What would you change or add about the path of your own leadership development up to this point?
When you have completed your brief interview, summarize what you learned with the rest of us here. What were the high points? What does this mean for how you’d like to develop as a leader and for your own leadership path? Do you see any relevance of Week#2 reading materials to your findings?
