In this activity you will first assess your character strengths with a survey that is used in Positive Psychology, which is the scientific study of the strengths and virtues that enable individuals and communities to thrive. This field is founded on the belief that people want to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives, to cultivate what is best within themselves, and to enhance their experiences of work, love and play.
Go to this link and complete the “VIA Survey of Character Strengths” which measures 24 character strengths: https://www.authentichappiness.sas.upenn.edu/testcenterLinks to an external site.
You need to register and login on the website in order to complete the survey. The survey consists of 240 questions so be prepared to spend approximately an hour on it. Upon completion, you will receive a detailed list of your top 5 character strengths according to the survey.
Now that you have reviewed the material in this module, reflect on how it pertains to your life. In this reflective journal entry, be sure to address each of the following questions and please number your responses: :
What were your five top strengths? Discuss the results of your assessment, including where you feel it hit or missed the mark and why. Include examples of how you have applied these strengths recently.

Identify at least 2 specific actions you could take to minimize these health risks or personal harm and create positive change for yourself in this dimension. Where you are on the Stages of Change scaleLinks to an external site.? How will you be supported in this new behavior change?
Restate your SMART Goal. Journal about your progress on your action plan. Describe any obstacles encountered and strategies you will use to overcome them. Some things to keep track of include accomplishments, how accomplished, what helped you, what hindered you, and how to keep moving forward. It is important to make adjustments as needed too, as things change in life and goals change too! Keep track of your adjustments and steps to keep moving forward on your goal!
NOTE: This is a gradable journal with no partial credit. Journal entries MUST be a minimum length of 250 words to receive credit. Each Reflective Journal entry will include specific journal “prompt” questions, which must be answered specifically and must contain details, examples, and reflection in order to earn the points for the journal. Why the word count? Because this is a “writing to learn” exercise, where you will explore your thoughts and feelings and work out concerns.
Type and save your submission in a Word file and then copy/paste into Canvas. Students are responsible for checking to make sure that posted journal entries actually display in the journal. If there are technical difficulties and your journal or discussion posts do not display correctly after you have posted them, it is your responsibility to notify the instructor before the deadline.
