In this third and final reflection, I want you to follow the same basic procedures as the first two reflections. That is, draw upon your prompt responses (make explicit references to which week you are talking about), my videos, and the group chats and give me concrete examples (e.g., don’t just talk about “the readings” but name the reading and, if relevant, quote directly from it with a proper citation) when answering this prompt (it’s a variation on the one in the syllabus):
It turns out that Aunt Sadie actually has some money and is willing to help you with your university education if she thinks you’ve got what it takes to be a good student, graduate, and citizen. Of course, she’s not going to part with that money easily as you’ve already figured out. She wants to know how the last three weeks of the course have affected the way that you think about the first two sections. As usual, she wants three significant points about the lessons you learned from studying Islam, Daoism, and Atheism and she wants those lessons illustrated with concrete examples. Finally, she wants to know how your conception of religion has changed throughout this course. What were the most significant lessons and what has made you rethink things? What are your current ideas? Why do they matter to you? As always, give Aunt Sadie concrete examples to justify your position. You want her to crack open that wallet and start spreading around some financial love.
When writing this reflection, remember that Aunt Sadie (and I) want to know about what you’ve learned, how you learned it, and most importantly, why that learning is important to you in your growth as a student and a person. Real learning is more than just learning facts. I want to know how coming to interact with this material is changing your thought. It’s ok if you don’t have a firm conclusion yet, but tell me your story and your questions and why you’ve ended up where you have.
