To complete this assignment, you are to select a scholarly (peer reviewed) article that discusses a type of social work practice that is utilized at your agency (e.g., type of theory agency uses, method of engaging clients or community, documentation model, supervision model, etc.).
Then, you will review the article with your field supervisor during supervision or during a staffing and discuss/address the key items below (see items in green font).
After your review/discussion with your field supervisor, you will write a paper that follows the assignment instructions (see step 3 below).
When submitting your assignment, you must upload / attach a copy of your selected scholarly (peer reviewed) article. Note: 3 points will be deducted from your assignment grade if you do not upload/attach a copy of the article.
Assignment Instructions
Step 1: select a scholarly (peer reviewed) article that discusses a type of social work practice that is utilized at your agency (e.g., type of theory agency uses, method of engaging clients or community, documentation model, supervision model, etc.).
Step 2: Review the article with your field supervisor (during supervision or a staffing) *and* discuss/address the key items below (see items in green font).
Key Items to Address and Discuss
Why did the authors write the article? What were they hoping to find or do with the information?
What type of research was conducted? Qualitative? Quantitative? Mixed Method?
Who was the study conducted with? Sample size? Demographics of sample?
What were the findings of the study?
How does what the authors present relate to what your agency is currently doing? How does it differ?
What recommendations, or suggestions, do you have for your agency based on the findings of the article?
Step 3: Write a paper that includes a minimum of one in-text citation / reference (scholarly article) *and* includes the following components:
Briefly introduces your selected scholarly (peer reviewed) article;
Addresses all six (6) key items above (green font);
Includes a conclusion that discusses the outcome of your presentation to your field supervisor. In the conclusion, you should describe
the response to your presentation,
how you feel about the response(s), and
what are your next steps based on the information you learned from the article and/or the response(s) from your presentation.
Step 4: Submit your written paper and upload / attach a copy of your selected scholarly (peer reviewed) article. Note: 3 points will be deducted from your assignment grade if you do not upload/attach a copy of the article.
Paper Format
Students should format their title page, paper content, and reference page(s) according to the APA Publication Manual, Seventh Edition.
Students should use the student paper format, including a cover page. For more information: refer to Chapter 2 of APA Publication Manual, Seventh Edition, the APA Style Paper Format resource, and the APA Student Title Page Guide.
Student papers do not include a running head. For more information: refer to page 30 of the APA Publication Manual, Seventh Edition, and this APA Style Header resource.
This paper should NOT include an abstract, table of contents, or appendix.
The paper should be double spaced and include 1″ margins throughout.
Font Type and Size
Use 12-point Times New Roman font.
Ensure the font type and font size of your page numbers are consistent with the rest of your paper.
Paper Length
There is no minimum page length.
Your paper should be no more than three (3) pages in length.
The cover page and references page will not be part of the total page count for this assignment. You will not lose points for including a cover page and a references page.
One (1) point will be deducted from the overall grade for every page over three (3) pages, excluding the cover/reference pages.
In-Text Citations and References*
Paper must include a minimum of one in-text citation / reference (scholarly article).
In-text citations and reference list should be formatted according to APA style.
