I believe all of you are too young to remember the Tylenol murders on September 30, 1982. This case was cited in public relations courses as the perfect way to address a crisis. So what is this case doing in a public opinion chapter? Because J & J handled the crisis well, this trusted brand withstood the crisis. I remember that other over-the-counter pain medicine competitors increased their advertising, thinking that Tylenol could no longer come back. That was a mistake. Although, as you will read, people stopped buying Tylenol, public opinion didn’t decline. (Remember the time: no internet, no social media.)
Please read this case carefully, beginning on page 75. Make sure you read “Our Credo” on page 78 and the ad on page 79. Also, read “FROM THE TOP.”
What was the media environment when the Tylenol crises occurred?
How might the results have differed if the crises occurred today?

I will choose to learn about the diversity culture of the workplace, which I think will benefit me a lot in my future career. The diversity culture in the workplace refers to that there are diverse cultural groups in the workplace, such as different ethnic backgrounds, age, gender, etc. Diversity culture can bring many benefits in the workplace, such as enhancing team cohesion, improving innovation ability, promoting the diversity of culture and social environment in the workplace, establishing an inclusive atmosphere, and enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises. These can make the enterprise more successful and improve its development ability. The importance of diversity culture lies in that it can make the enterprise better develop, better unite the employees in the workplace, better realize the social responsibility of the enterprise, and finally make the enterprise better develop. More importantly, accepting your differences and diversity is of great benefit to corporate culture. In today’s society, people’s beliefs, orientations and other differences are obvious, and society and workplaces need to be more tolerant of diversity.
I think it helps me to understand the culture of the global economy. This is because today many companies operate globally. It is very important to understand different cultures and how they conduct business to achieve success. In addition, understanding the global culture helps to bridge the potential communication and cooperation gap, and ultimately helps to promote success.
For my future career, I think learning some culture of your current or target company will help your work. Being familiar with your company’s culture will help you get involved with the office atmosphere. And as you learn about the company’s culture, you will realize whether your personality matches your company’s preference. If you feel that the company’s culture does not correspond to what you are chasing, you should no longer work in that company. Instead, if the company’s culture can inspire and encourage you or employees, it will make your employees work harder, be proud of the company, and understand some decision manager made. Thus I think learning more about the company’s culture can help you adapt to the company’s atmosphere, or you will quit in time as your notice that this company’s culture or atmosphere don’t like. Besides knowing the importance of learning the culture, finding a method to know about the culture is also necessary. For example, asking the interviewer about company culture will make you a basic understanding of company culture. You can also talk to people outside the company who knows, such as customers, suppliers, partners, and ex-employees. From those outside people, you can really know how exactly the company’s culture. It will help you to make the right decision.
