Creating a culture of safety is of the utmost importance in aviation maintenance. Despite the incredible pressures that technicians and mechanics face, strict adherence to regulations during the maintenance process must be achieved. Additionally, to maintain profitability, cutting out waste is an important process in any organization. Lean Six Sigma may be employed in aviation to assist in limiting waste along with ensuring there is a culture of safety. As such, the leader’s role in this process is essential. Maintenance managers must ensure that all personnel are in compliance with stated safety guidelines without constantly interfering with the maintenance process itself. The type of maintenance environment (MRO, FBO, general aviation, commercial, military, etc.) also plays a role in this process.
For this discussion, select a specific maintenance environment and discuss how you, as the leader, would promote a culture of safety through employment of lean processes. What type of training requirements would you provide to your middle managers to assist them in developing their own leadership practices? What leadership method(s) would you recommend utilizing when developing cost-reduction programs?
Your discussion shall be three paragraphs and must include a minimum of two references with in-text citation. The references listed at the end of the discussion must be in current APA format.
