What type of research was this?

September 1, 2021
Christopher R. Teeple

This is a group discussion activity that I have traditionally used in my face to face courses to help reinforce the material covered in the Ch. 1 & 7-8 lectures. I have attempted to adapt this activity to an asynchronous discussion format utilizing the peer review function. We will see how it goes.
You have been randomly divided into 5 discussion groups. You can find the names of your group members by visiting the Groups tab (2nd tab) in the People menu in Canvas.
First, I would like for you to analyze ONE of the articles assigned to your group.
Please answer all of the following questions about the article that you chose. If it preferable that you submit your post in a bulleted format with the corresponding letter (A-M) beside each question to make it easier for your peer reviewer to identify the question that you are responding to. You should also know that the answers might not be explicitly stated in the article, but you may need to infer it based on the research types that you learned in Ch. 1.2 & Ch. 7.
At the top of your, please write the citation for your article in correct APA format.
What type of research was this? (more than 1 of these options may apply) Please explain why you chose this type of research and perhaps include an example / excerpt from the article that helped you derive this answer.

List 2 Limitations from the study.
What was an assumption that the researchers had to make regarding one element of their methods (e.g. they assumed the participants did not consume alcohol prior to testing)?
What was one of the primary Independent Variables in the study?
What were THREE of the major Dependent Variables in the study?
Do you see any potential Conflicts of Interest with the authors and their research?
What would you type into the Search box of PubMed if you wanted to find other studies on this topic? Please create a search using all 3 Boolean Operators: AND, OR, NOT
It is understandable if you cannot answer every single one of these questions about your article, but you should make an effort to find that information in the article. Note that you will be asked to do this again in future assignments and on exams. Questions like this will also be part of your Comprehensive Exams before graduation.
