1.Analyze The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald from a Marxist perspective. Tom and Daisy Buchanan are members of the established upper class (American “aristocracy”); Gatsby is a member of the class known as the nouveau riche (the upper class), while George and Myrtle Wilson are members of the working class (possibly somewhere between middle and lower class). How does setting emphasize differences between social classes? How does the novel suggest this class struggle will sort itself out? Explain and support your answer with textual evidence.
2.Analyze The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald from a Marxist perspective. Gatsby’s pursuit of Daisy (and the wealth with which to win her) can be seen as a representation of the materialistic American Dream. Is Gatsby’s ultimate failure a criticism of that dream? Explain and support your response with textual evidence.

In MLA format, write six to eight full pages.
In addition, incorporate into each body paragraph at least two direct quotes.
In other words, your essay needs at least five direct quotes from Fitzgerald’s novel, at least three direct quotes from Lois Tyson’s “Marxist Criticism,” and at least one direct quote from each of the other four sources.
In all, your essay should have a total of twelve or more MLA-formatted quotations from at least six readings.
