Peer 1- Ashley
Hello Everyone,
This 15-year-old girl Dolores has a sexually transmitted virus named Human Papillomavirus (HIV). This virus causes benign papillomas and premalignant lesions that will create cancers in the cervix, Vagaina, Ulva, anus, penis, and Oropharynx, which are typically transmitted through sexual contact. There are commonly used methods in order to treat precancerous cervical alterations, which include potentially freezing the tissue that is damaged, LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure), the removal of cervical tissue, surgical conization, and laser vaporization conization. Dolores could have protected herself by either utilizing a condom, which may not be 100% effective but it would have helped by minimizing the HPV transmission between sexual partners, she could have also gotten vaccinated. The HPV vaccination reduces the risk of infection by the HPV types targetted by the vaccine. These vaccines are very good and strong protection for new HPV infections.

Based on the information provided I think that the sexually transmitted virus that is involved is Human papillomavirus (HPV). This virus causes benign papillomavirus and premalignant lesions that will drive cancers of cervix, vulva, vagina, penis, oropharynx and anus. They are typically transmitted through sexual contact. There is no cure for the virus itself, but many HPV infections go away on their own. In fact, about 70 to 90 percent of cases of HPV infection are cleared from the body by the immune system. When treatment is needed, the goal is to relieve symptoms by removing any visible warts and abnormal cells in the cervix (STD Facts – Human Papillomavirus (HPV), n.d.). Treatments might include: cryosurgery(freezing that destroys tissue), LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure, or the removal of cervical tissue using a hot wire loop), surgical conization (surgery with a scalpel, a laser, or both to remove a cone-shaped piece of tissue from the cervix and cervical canal), and laser vaporization conization (use of a laser to destroy cervical tissue). Dolores could have reduced the risk of infection by vaccination. HPV vaccination before sexual activity can reduce the risk of infection by the HPV types targeted by the vaccine. These vaccines provide strong protection against new HPV infections. Correct and consistent condom use also reduces HPV transmission between sexual partners (Human Papilloma Virus (HPV): Causes, Testing, Treatment & Prevention, n.d.).
