My PICOT is: Will the implementation of an ambulation regimen and Sequential Compression Device use reduce the incidence of Deep Vein Thrombosis in the elderly population post-surgery compared to patients who are only prescribed anticoagulation therapy alone by the provider?
Module 7 Critical Appraisal Process (CAP) Project Presentation Instructions in Week 7 you will complete a Final Project presentation for an EBP improvement or change PLAN in nursing practice. This will include your PICOT question, problem and a critical appraisal doing a literature review.
With the final project, you will identify if the studies are clinically significant and answer your research question. With this final project clinical appraisal process you will include a discussion of an intervention to be use for projected outcome and can be applied to nursing practice.
Use the PICOT question and problem identified for the worksheet in completed in Week 2 assignment. ***Speaker notes required for this PowerPoint presentation. (-20 points if no speaker notes)**** Key Elements for final project: TITLE OF PLANNED STUDY: Come up with a short and eye catching title.
Introduction: What is the problem or topic of interest? PICOT Question: Include your PICOT question. Purpose: “A clear, concise statement of the specific goal or focus of study” Background and Significance to Care (Introduction): Briefly describe what is already know about the problem and why it continues to be a problem, or of significance to nursing practice. Include facts/ data with citations.
Describe an applicable nursing theory framework you will use for your nursing research plan. Complete a Literature Review related to your PICOT question/ problem: (6-8 slides) 6 nursing research articles- Scholarly, peer-reviewed, 5 years or newer. Each nursing research article summary should include: Research type/ design, method used, Participant description and sample size Purpose of study Strengths/ limitations Data collection and analysis process Statistical test used (Example-T test) (If qualitative- coding, patterns, and themes identified) Findings/ outcomes.
Note: A paragraph of each article can be included in the speaker notes of the presentation. Include APA citations in slide and speaker notes. Compare and contrast: the 6 studies related to similarities and differences. (2-3 slides) Summarize how the studies relate to or answer your PICOT question/ problem/ intervention. Address any clinical significance from the studies reviewed related to your PICOT question. Application:
The Plan: Develop Your Own Nursing Research Study: EBP Improvement or Change Plan (3 – 4 slides) Method and design: What research method and design will you use to answer your research question? (Quantitative/ Qualitative, experimental, descriptive, grounded theory, etc. What participants/ population will you use and how will they be selected? What is your sample size and why?
What setting will you use for your study site? Example: Nursing unit. Intervention: What nursing intervention will you use for a change or improvement in nursing practice? Is it EBP from your literature review studies? Data collection: Describe your data collection process/ approach and tools used to collect measurable data. Will you use a tool already developed or design your own?
Data analysis: What statistical test will you use to help measure and answer your research question? Describe (Example: T Test. If you are doing a qualitative study, explain the process of thematic coding and patterns needed to answer your research question.) Outcome/ Results: Discuss if the projected outcome is measurable and outcome answers your research question. Implication to Nursing Practice: (1 slide)
Describe how your projected study plan can be applied to nursing practice. Conclusion – summarize the presentation. (1slide) Formatting: Make sure to include references in APA format Use citations in the speaker notes and on slides Scholarly references that are peer reviewed and 5 years or newer. Use brief phrases and bullet points in the slides. Include a cover slide and reference slide. Use speaker notes Slide count 14
