I need to write a 1 page journal on what I think makes a good counselor. My professor gave me instructions for it. He said:
You can probably imagine that good counselors have specific knowledge and skills, but also certain dispositions.
When I was in graduate school, my professor used to ask us if we had the “it” that is needed to be a good counselor.
The “it” was more about personality and disposition than acquired knowledge.
What personality traits do you feel you have that would make a good counselor? Do you have traits that you my need to keep in check when you are working with clients?
How was your work affectively with all clients, including those that are different backgrounds than you? How will you know that you have the “it” and you are effective?
I would like you to add that I am Empathetic, compassionate, non-judgmental and I am easy to talk to and I am approachable and put people at ease when they are around me. Also add in answers for my professors questions above.
