In a three page APA-style paper, pose a question or select a specific topic directly related to resilience. Investigate your topic by reviewing and critiquing the published research studies investigating resilience by measuring it in a sample of actual people, using at least five citations. Your sources must include no more than one review article (that is, most of them should describe a new research study completed by the authors of the article), and the majority should have publication dates no earlier than 2000. In your review, clearly state the question, summarize and explain the research evidence about the issue, and conclude with a brief discussion of the major points learned and specific possible future directions (beyond “more research is needed”). Do not use any direct quotes longer than 10 words from other sources; rather, paraphrase others’ words throughout the paper and reserve direct quotes for defining unusual terms or for highlighting especially eloquent descriiptions. please follow the grading rubric attached in the files section(png file)
The topic of your paper should be very specific and should be in the form of a question. Examples include:
(a) What kinds of interventions improve resilience among college students?
(b) What factors influence resilience after a cancer diagnosis?
(c) Is self-compassion related to resilience?
(d) Does mindfulness practice boost resilience?
(e) Does resilience impact recovery from depression?
(f) Can resilience interventions decrease substance use in adolescents?
There are lots of articles out there that are related to resilience in some way, but fewer that are directly about resilience. One way to ask yourself whether the papers you have chosen measure resilience directly is to see if they used a specific scale or measure to assess resilience, such as the Brief Resilience Scale, the Brief COPE, the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (we will count Posttraumatic Growth as resilience), the Resilience Scale for Adults, or the Conor-Davidson Resilience Scale.
The articles you find will most likely be complicated and technical. Please don’t get scared away. You don’t need to understand every word, or even to read every word of them. Instead, your job is to find and then describe some of the main points. And I’m asking you to find information within these texts for a reason. Whereas other things you might read on the internet are of varying scientific quality, research articles published in psychology, nursing, counseling, or medical journals generally test hypotheses in a more thorough way. It’s good to get more comfortable looking through original research (rather than random internet articles describing it), because that’s where you find the most accurate scientific information. Practice looking through original research articles can therefore be a useful skill to have in your life.
