The mayor of your town wants to use your expertise in criminal justice policy to create a policy that will decrease drug use amongst teens that has been steadily increasing for the last five years. In order to assist the mayor, you must consider the following:
1. What is the theoretical model directing your research design? Why did you choose this model? How does this theoretical approach connect to your policy implication?
2. How would you design a research study to identify what is causing the issue? What research method(s) would you choose and why? Please make sure to detail your approach to sampling and data collection, including the operationalization of your variables, the proposed data sampling instruments, the timeline, and your sample.
3. How will you analyze your data? What techniques will you employ? Explain the intent of those techniques and what the relative advantages and drawbacks there are to each.
4. Create a policy to reduce drug usage. In your policy, you must apply the Seven-Stage Checklist for Program/Policy Planning and Analysis.
5. Budgets should flow from the policy and planning process. With that in mind, what types of potential costs should you include in the three areas of services and costs? Each question must be distinctly separated out by the student, with each question being graded separately on a pass/fail basis by a committee of three. Each answer should be approximately 4-5 pages in length minus references.
