Part 1
Select one of the cases below to plan your lesson and address the questions provided. Be sure to state which case you have selected when you submit your assignment.
Case 1: Elli is a four-year old girl who was born with a hearing impairment. She has typical motor and cognitive functions and interacts well with her peers.
Case 2: Levi is a two-year old boy with cerebral palsy. He is a member of a part-time preschool classroom with peers of the same age. He has limited motor ability and cannot self-feed.
Case 3: Jacob is a three-year old boy who just moved to the U.S. from Italy. He does not speak any English and is very shy. This is his first time in a preschool program.
Questions:
1. What do you see as the major challenges for Elli, Levi, or Jacob in the classroom?
2. What are potential accommodations you would need to provide on a daily basis for the child?
3. What strategies might be helpful to support the child in an inclusive setting?
4. What key developmental milestones might you try to identify to guide your lesson planning?
Part 2
Create a lesson plan that is relevant for the developmental needs of the case you selected and a class of typically developing same-age peers. Use the provided lesson plan template. Be sure to complete all parts of the template.
Submit both part 1 and 2 together when completed. Copy your answers to the Part 1 questions above the Lesson Plan so that you only need to submit one document.
