Hi everyone! For this week’s lesson on Sex Discrimination and Bodily Autonomy I will be doing my student lesson on the article Sex Discrimination in Healthcare: Section 1557 and LGBTQ Rights written by Amy Post, Ashley Stephens, and Valarie Blake. I did a voice thread presentation, so please find the link down below! I hope my discussion questions provide you all with the space to explore your thoughts and opinions on sex discrimination in healthcare amongst the LGTBQ+ community and specifically the influence of section 1557. I definitely learned a lot and I hope you all do too!

Discussion Questions:
1. Considering today’s political climate, what do you believe is in store for Section 1557?
2. To what extent do you think the laws discussed in the article are sufficient enough to ensure that the LGTBQ+ community is being protected from sex discrimination in health care settings?
3. What was your response to the Health and Human Services Department arguing that “anti-LGTBQ health care discrimination is legal even anti-LGTBQ+ employment is not during the rule of 2020”?
4. What might be some implementation strategies that could be impactful in holding health facilities accountable for uplifting competent care for the LGTBQ+ individuals?
5. As proposed by the authors, does Bostock control Section 1557? Is there any justification for treating sex discrimination differently in health care?
