What I found most interesting about weeks 3 and 4 was learning about psychopathic, psychosis, and traumatized shooters. When I was first introduced to this topic, I thought all school shooters could potentially be the same. In reality, when we dissect the details, I learned that they are completely different for many reasons. Whether the shooters have stressors, abusive situations, lost touch with reality, or have no emotions that leads to a shooting, it separates all of them because they are all different. Furthermore, we can definitely apply this information to recent news because when shootings happen in schools, there are almost always warning signs that go unnoticed. Thus, if we can learn about psychopathic, psychosis, and traumatized shooters before the events happen, everyone can learn to recognize these cues and report them immediately. Also, Travis Hirschi’s Social Control Theory can teach us about bonds preventing people from acting deviantly. Thus, if we can teach people in schools about this, instead of letting a kid slip through the cracks, we can create bonds with them to try and prevent these deviant acts. Finally, I think the new Ohio law, Collin’s Law, is good because it will definitely deter students from hazing other students. This law not only is making the definition of hazing broader, but also makes the punishment more strict to hopefully deter students from hazing. All in all, I think this is good because hazing is all “fun and games” to some people but in reality, it can be deadly and detrimental to families.
