Introduction
According to Miller (2012), any time you take on a new leadership role, there’s a learning curve. The first 100 days are vital to setting the stage for future successes (Miller, 2012). It is during this time that you assess the current state of the unit and decide what steps to take as the new leader. Doing this assessment will be the focus on this discussion question.
This discussion requires you to outline the process for a new manager’s unit evaluation.
Directions
It is Sherry’s first day on the job as the manager of the patient accounts at Acme Health System. She had recently graduated with her MHA and is concerned about being younger than most of her staff. She has heard that her new direct reports were nice to your face, but behind your back, they complained and tried to place blame. This is why the previous manager left. To add to her stress, her boss has indicated he wants her to improve the productivity of the unit at any cost.
Initial Post: Respond to the following in a report.
What data should she collect?
Who should she talk to?
How should she evaluate the productivity of the unit?
When should she start to make minor and major changes?
What backlash do you expect she will receive once she starts making changes?
Can this be avoided by her actions in the first 100 days?
The initial posting should be prepared as a Microsoft™ Word document, and then attached to the unit discussion thread. There is no minimum or maximum in terms of the word count; however, the response should explicitly address all required components of this discussion assignment. The document should be prepared as a practical business deliverable (single-spaced) and reflect higher-level cognitive processing (analysis, synthesis, and evaluation).
Support the initial posting with at least 3 references of credible or peer-reviewed sources. The in-text citations and the list of references should be consistent with the APA writing style (7th ed.). To earn the maximum number of points for the initial posting, the overall quality of the writing should be consistent with that expected of a college student and industry professional.
