Introduction
Prior to Obamacare, there were many attempts by states and the Federal government at reforming our broken healthcare system. For example, in the 1990s, there were at least 4 plans that did not get out of Congress (Starr, 1995). According to one author, the failure of these plans is one of the greatest lost political opportunities in American history (Starr, 1995). It is a story of compromises that never happened, of deals that were never closed, of Republicans, moderate Democrats, and key interest groups that backpedaled from proposals they themselves had earlier endorsed (Starr, 1995). It doesn’t sound much different from 2009. The effectiveness of healthcare reform is the topic of this discussion question.

What are some solutions that you can think of to prevent the need for reform? What reform initiatives would you put forward (Don’t use an existing one). List your own ideas based on your research.
