Good Day Assignment Objective: Explain Plato’s “cave analogy.” What are its implications for education? What are the implications about language? If those who see the sun are rejected when they return to the cave, what are the implications for the political involvement of philosophers in their own societies? No pressure though, do your thing I don’t take school very seriously.. but honestly, I do like Socrates a lot– like, I actually read the entire ‘Republic’ by Plato like I was suppose to. I got high one time, and thought that Jesus in the bible was actually Socrates because the Romans were the ones who put the bible together… ? But nah, Socrates would’ve been a little more of a– Well, 100% would have been more of an asshole than Jesus. JC was way more of a bro. Anyways, I work full time because post-secondary is really just a scam so that I have a piece of paper to prove that I can do a job that I already know how to do, you know? Other general instructions: – I attached the Bloom translation of Republic, please use that but refrain from using his interpretive essay at the end because the Prof doesn’t like Bloom for some reason. – You can use more than 3 sources as necessary, no big deal – They want us generally using this site: http://classics.mit.edu/Browse/index-Plato.html – They want us to keep to the primary source material, so please avoid using secondary source interpretations where possible (but you can still use them – they just don’t want people re-writing other people’s opinions because this philosophy has been around since the beginning of the West) – If you have to go over the word count, no big deal, they’re pretty chill about being over it – BIG ONE- Could you please throw a paragraph in there about how Socrates tried metaphorically to lead Euthyphro (piety) and Meno (virtue) out of their own mini-caves, only to end in frusteration?
