This assignment is for a discussion based on Chapter 8 of my textbook. These are the instructions:
Identify a research study to critique. Read the study to see whether you recognize any key terms discussed in this chapter. Remember that not all studies contain all key terms. The following questions serve as a guide in critiquing sampling plans:
1. Can you identify the sample? Were terms such as target and accessible population used? Can you determine what the population was? Because populations tend to be implied rather than directly stated, determining the population to whom results are generalized may be a bit more difficult.
2. Can you determine whether a probability or nonprobability sampling technique was used? Look for keywords such as random for probability samples and convenience for nonprobability samples. If the technique is not specified, chances are great that the sampling technique is nonprobability.
3. Can you determine any inclusion criteria for study participation? This is usually discussed under the Methods/Sample section of a research report. In some instances, you might read about reasons subjects were excluded from the study.
4. Was the setting described? There should be an adequate description of the setting in which data were gathered, particularly when aspects of the environment may have been crucial to the study. For example, in nonexperimental research designs, lack of environmental control may be viewed as an uncontrolled extraneous variable. For these reasons, possible ways in which the setting may have influenced the results should be considered.
Your initial posting must be a minimum of 140 words and be in APA format.
As you can see minimum is 140 words, so one page should be enough. Let me know if you need any other information and thank you for your help.
