In light of the recent trial of Officer Derrick Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd, I would like all of my students to weigh in on the outcome and ramifications of the jury’s guilty verdict. The paper should not be less than 3-pages and you should touch on the following subjects, among others: Is the guilty decision really a sign that conditions are changing in this nation?, or is the verdict just an anomaly soon to give way to decisions that resurrect the so-called ‘norm’? Does the verdict perhaps signify that the ‘scales of justice’ are finally blind in America regarding one’s race, religion, ethnicity, social standing, and economic status. Will real justice only be served in this nation if future decisions also come down to the evidence presented in court?; or will it take similar verdicts in the next case, and the next, and all those cases there after to prove we are inching closer to a truly fair and just society? Were both sides in this case treated fairly and equally? Is our the US finally starting to live up to the tenets of our Constitution? Remember to footnote all of the sources you present to bolster your arguments. I don’t care what your position you take as long as you make the strongest case for your opinions and support your argument.
