Choose ONE of the two possible essay topics below. Be sure to answer the essay questions thoroughly.
Cite your e-text and other credible material within your answer as well as place your references at the bottom.
Your answer must be no less than 400 words in total (not including references).
Your essay should contain both an introduction and a conclusion.
You must utilize at least three credible, scholarly sources of information to support this essay, one of which will be the course text: ( Lazzara, J., & Beyer, A. (2020). Psychology Through the Lifespan. Creative Commons OER).
Prompt:
Topic 1:
Write an essay that summarizes the second stage of Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development (the preoperational stage).
Start with an introduction that lists the content of the essay and what you will be covering.
Make sure to include the following terms in your essay: animism, egocentrism, centration, and conservation.
Explain how this stage in Piaget’s theoretical model seeks to describe cognitive development in early childhood within the context of children thinking symbolically, yet not able to conceptualize cognitive operations.
Be sure to provide examples of each point.
Topic 2:
Write an essay that summarizes the emergence of gender roles during early childhood development.
Start with an introduction that lists the content of the essay and what you will be covering.
Make sure to distinguish between gender roles and gender identification.
In your discussion, include models of parenting and how they can contribute to reinforcing or detracting from gender-role development.
Summarize this essay by discerning between gender roles in collectivist societies vs. individualistic societies.
Be sure to provide examples of each point.
Your essay should:
Answer the essay questions thoroughly in no fewer than 400 words.
Use factual information from the 3 scholarly sources.
Be written in standard essay format:
Introduction; includes an overview of your main points.
Body; complete paragraphs, each discussing one main point with support and details.
Conclusion; recaps main points, without presenting new information.
