Overview
The final research project for this course is spread over Assignments 3 and 4.
Before you begin working on the assignment, you will work with your group members to select a topic from the list below during lab session 8. If you want to choose any different topic other than the below, kindly contact your instructor and ensure they approve the new topic of your group’s choice.

The relationship between learning modality (i.e., active learning; online/in-person; flipped vs traditional classroom) and student outcomes
For Assignment 3, each student will work individually to conduct background research and independently develop a study question and hypothesis that is testable using survey methods. For assignment 4, students will work in teams and select one team member’s hypothesis for the study. They will work together to design and implement a survey to test that hypothesis, and analyze and interpret the results.

Part 1: Background research and hypothesis development
For this students works individually to develop a research question related to the topic selected by their team and propose a hypothesis that is testable using survey methodology.

(a) Define the topic and its importance.
(b) Explain relevant theories and describe past research on the topic
(c) Identify and explain gap(s) in knowledge based on the past research
Hypothesis and proposal (approx. 400 words)(LO #hypothesisdevelopment)
(a) State your hypothesis followed by a sentence that clearly identifies your variables.** Please explain the rationale behind your hypothesis using evidence. Why should the reader believe your hypothesis?**
(b) Justify the plausibility of your hypothesis. Please refer to the lesson plan of plausibility and evaluate your hypothesis based on criteria such as parsimony, generalizability, specificity etc. with explanations.
(c) Explain how the hypothesis is testable using survey methodology. Please discuss the scales that will be used with citations for both the IV and DV and any other confounding/control variables. Also, explain steps in data collection using the observational study design using a survey. The scales you will be using for the IV and DV should be taken from prior empirical research. Please do your search to find the correct scales for your study and cite the reference.
(d) Identify possible target population(s) for a survey.
