instruction:
Author an original post of no fewer than 250 words answering the prompt below, then author at least 100-words replies to two different colleagues’ posts. Original posts and replies must meet the criteria listed below.
The Scenario
Three ships are sinking in the middle of the ocean, miles away from one another. The passengers on each ship will drown without immediate assistance. You and your crew are opperating the only nearby rescue ship. You want to save the passengers on each of the three ships. The problem is that you cannot save them all.Your options are limited to saving one ship: ship A, ship B, or ship C. There is no way out of this conundrum.
• Ship A is carrying 100 passengers: 10 adult teachers and 90 students aged between 10 and 16.
• Ship B is carrying 300 passengers, all of whom are sexagenarians (60-year-olds). None of these passengers are in the workforce any longer.
• Ship C is carrying 10 practicing medical doctors who specialize in child healthcare.
Thus you are left with the ethical quandary of determining which ship of passengers to save.
Prompt
Making use of at least one ethical theory (utilitarianism, Kantian ethics, Care ethics, and/or Virtue ethics), explain which course of action would be most ethical for you and your crew to take. Take time to justify your position. In other words, do not simply state what you think is right, provide the reasoning that supports your position. Be sure to make use of in-text citations, directly referencing at least one of the assigned readings in your post.
As always, be sure to use Grammarly’s  works cited generator (https://www.grammarly.com/citations/mla?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=19962285088&utm_content=654566133046&utm_term=&target=&targetid=dsa-1994941340854&adgroup=154778979584&device=c&matchtype=&placement=&network=g&extension=&clickid=Cj0KCQjwu-KiBhCsARIsAPztUF0IivRpjxOsw_89eKD_7VEmLaOZyC7fVxaQynscucieXI3BsNuBgoAaAms-EALw_wcB&gad=1&gclsrc=aw.ds) to produce an MLA style reference for the readings referenced in this journal entry. Include that reference at the bottom of your original post. Each original post should engage with a minimum of one assigned reading.
Discussion Board Post and Replies
Students are required to author multiple original discussion board posts through Blackboard. Each original post must be at least 250-words, respond to the specified prompt, and engaging the relevant assigned course readings. Students must also author original, substantive replies that exceed 100-words to two different colleagues’ posts. Original posts and replies must feature proper spelling, complete sentences, and, generally, correct grammar. Rules of Netiquette must also be followed. Posts and replies must be completed by the specified deadline. Since the objective of this assignment is to facilitate timely dialogue on the specified topic, late submissions of original postings and replies will not be permitted.
Important Note about Replies
Unoriginal or superficial replies, including those that feature filler language, merely parrot what the original poster has written, ask general questions without offering original thoughts, and those that offer feedback on the way will receive no credit. Greetings, comments on style and clarity of writing, and effusive or general praise do not count toward the 100 word-count requirement. Replies are expected to thoughtfully engage the substance of the articulated ideas.
