Put careful thought into understanding Amy Winehouse’s experience. This is a chance for you to draw upon what you have learned in this class to develop a formulation of Ms. Winehouse’s struggles and strengths. Many interrelated factors played into Amy Winehouse’s difficulties, and there are many theories about what ultimately led to her demise. I am interested in reading your theory.
Answer the following questions:
1. In a nutshell, what is your understanding of Amy Winehouse’s struggles. This is a like an introduction paragraph to an essay– very brief and quick. You might want to answer this last, but keep the position of this question first so that I can see where you are going in your assessment.
2. What possible diagnoses could Ms. Winehouse have? Be sure to name and describe the diagnosis or diagnoses. Provide quick evidence from the movie of your diagnosis/diagnoses. If you do not see her as having any conditions, be sure to give your rationale and your understanding of her. You are to demonstrate your knowledge of the conditions we have been discussing in this course as they relate to Ms. Winehouse.
3. How did her relationships influence her prognosis? Did anyone help or hinder her? You can pick a couple of individuals to focus on, or find themes in her relationships, or both.
4. What are some of her strengths?
5. What was the role of her music? How do her songs reflect what was going on for her? Be sure to give examples from her catalog (you can stick to what was in the movie.)
6. Talk some about her fame and how this may have influenced things for her.
7. What stood out to you in this documentary?
8. Use any of the perspectives we have been discussing in class to gain further insight into Amy Winehouse’s experiences. You can also draw on several perspectives to create your own spin. By perspective, I mean all the theories such as biochemical, psychodynamic, constructivist, family systems (as examples.)
9. Could she have been saved? And if so, how? Or what might have improved things for her?
10. What did you think of the movie?
