- Visit the following website: http://www.usdebtclock.org/ Locate the national debt in the upper left. Using a timer write down the national debt at the start and again one minute later. By how much did the national debt grow in one minute? Locate the budget items and determine the two largest current budget items.
- How is the national debt metric adjusted when comparing the debt burden of different countries? Why? Use this CIA Factbook link: https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/field/debt-external/country-comparison/ to find where the U.S. ranks worldwide in public debt.
- How will the national debt affect the U.S. investment environment? What role do interest rates play in the process?
- What are some of the economic ramifications of a high national debt?
- How can we deal with the national debt and what concessions might the U.S. have to make?
- Is it accurate to say that “we are passing our debt on to future generations”?
