Watch the 2012 film “Silver Linings Playbook” with the following thoughts in mind:
1. What are the atypical features of the two main characters (Pat and Tiffany) that many mental health professionals would consider to be symptoms of a disorder? Would you like to provide specific examples or instances?
2. Do you believe that these characters meet criteria for “disorder?” Usually considered to be: disturbances in regular daily functioning and/or being upset by symptoms.
3. What type of treatments do we know the characters have received for their possible disorders? How did they respond? Do we believe this is a realistic portrayal of treatment and treatment response? Or is it “Hollywood?”
4. Given what you have observed in this movie, how do you believe the relationship and lives of these characters plays out past the end of the film?
5. If you were to have a disorder similar to either or both of these characters, how would your life be different than the one that you currently live?
6. What might I want to write about that this dude hasn’t thought of and suggested?
Requirements:
1. Four pages of content MINIMUM. 12-point Times New Roman. Standard margins. Double spaced. Headings and extra spaces between paragraphs do not count towards that four page minimum.
2. One page AT MOST may be a simple recap of the important plot elements. This is not a requirement, though. Skip the recap if you prefer!
3. Most of your four-page response (at least three full pages) should reflect on course content, relating film themes or content to your own life and the world around you, genuine exploration of topics that interest you, reflecting on questions that I posed, or reflecting on questions that interest you relating to the film and lesson content
