WATCH/READ: To prepare for writing this paper, watch the videos and read the art

April 24, 2024

WATCH/READ: To prepare for writing this paper, watch the videos and read the articles linked on the previous overview page.
FIND: Find one additional scholarly source to include in your paper.  A scholarly source is a recent journal article (within the last 5 years) written by experts in their field.  Websites that have a URL ending in .edu, .org, or .gov are also considered legitimate sources for this assignment.
WRITE: A 3-4 page reflection using the following prompts/questions to guide your writing.  Responses to a minimum of 6 prompts must be included in your paper. A minimum of 3 references must be included.
What did you learn about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)?
What is a health or social issue you discovered in the videos and articles that you were surprised tied back to Adverse Childhood Experiences and other toxic stressors?
What does resilience mean to you?
What strategies or methods are helpful to build resilience in everyday life when facing adversity?
What supports or community resources can nurses provide to build resilience in in our patients and strengthen families?
How do we let people know that everyone needs help sometimes and it’s okay to ask for help?
What are potential barriers to implementing these strategies as a nurse? How might you work around them?
What are you going to do now that you know this information?
Anything else regarding ACEs, resilience, or public health that you feel compelled to address after watching the TED talk and reading the articles.
FORMAT: Your paper must be formatted using APA format (7th ed.).  Elements of APA formatting you must include are: 1) title page; 2) double spaced; 3) 1-inch margins; 4) page numbers; 5) professional language; 6) in-text citations; 7) reference page.  An abstract is not needed for this paper.
READ: Choose 2 or more of the following articles to read.
**I highly recommend reading the article by Edsen or the article by Goddard first because they both gives an overview of  ACEs AND talk about interventions from a nursing perspective.
