Using Research Log + Lit. Review…
PART 1 (Audience Choice) –
Here you will choose your definitive stakeholder, then do some informal research to find out as much as you can about them. This is real detective work, and you may have to follow several leads to get to the information that you need. PICK ONE OR CONSOLIDATE THE STAKEHOLDERS INTO ONE DEFNITIVE GROUP (attached documents).
This assignment feeds directly into the audience section of your Issue, Audience, and Genre (IAG) assignment.
Be sure to include links to where you found any information you include here.
Each step has a written component. Please ensure that you complete each step.
1. Start your post with the following foundation information:
Your thesis (or some other presentation of the issue you will be addressing in your advocacy letter.)
The shareholder group that you have chosen.
2. Do some research to identify an individual person in that stakeholder group. See the example provided for how a student chose Horace Edward Kelley, owner of a factory farm in Virginia. Follow the model of the first part of that sample and write in detail how you came to choose the person you choose.
3. Present the demographic data you find about the individual audience that you choose:
gender,
age,
ethnicity,
location,
education,
occupation,
family structure,
and any other information you find about their background.
Complete as much of this information as possible.
4. Then move on to the psychographic data. Here you will be trying to determine (as stated in the reading on Understanding and Analyzing Audiences):
their knowledge of, stake in, and opinion on the topic;
their associated values, needs, and beliefs; and
their associated biases, concerns, or resistances
These are much more difficult to find out and you will have to do some educated guessing based on actions you read they have taken (for example, if you are writing to a politician, you might look at their voting record on your issue or closely related issues. You can also look at the actions of the community to which they belong. In the student example provided in Module 10.2, the student infers that family is important to the the farmer because of his living arrangements. This may be incorrect, but it is a reasonable guess and is the sort of detective work needed for this assignment.
Have fun!
PART 2 (Analysis of Advocacy Letter Samples) –
Step 1:
Locate and provide a link to a third advocacy letter sample that is directed at an audience similar to yours. For example, if you are writing to a politician, look for a letter addressed to a politician. If you are writing to a business person, do the same.Feel free to look at your peer’s proposed shareholder group and find someone who is writing to a group similar to yours and collaborate with them to find a sample. If you do so, be sure to indicate that in your response for extra engagement points. (for peer review one use file below, but find other two examples please) TOTAL OF 3
Step 2:
Prepare an analysis of the three research-based advocacy letter samples (the two provided and the one you find). Your response should analyze the structure, language, and reference format of the samples and indicate which features are obligatory, common, and rare. The reading on Understanding and Analyzing Genres presents a clear explanation with examples of what is required. I also discuss it in Lesson 1.
There is no single correct answer for this. Read carefully and give it your best effort.
Thesis: Although CBT is effective in addressing ASD in children, it has various advantages and disadvantages that may negatively or positively influence the treatment’s outcomes and efficiency, particularly in the long term.
