EITHER
a. Using at least one specific example, discuss the justification for institutions of incarceration run by the state and church in Ireland. In your example, include a discussion of the experiences of those incarcerated. (100 marks)
OR
b. Using at least one specific example, describe when, why and how citizens and activists in Ireland have challenged the silence, shame and/or unjust treatment of people in postcolonial institutions of incarceration. (100 marks)
2. Answer either 2A or 2B.

a. Using specific examples, describe how American Indian genocide, land dispossession and cultural assimilation were justified by European and American states and settlers in North America. Provide at least one example of Indigenous resistance to these forms of spatial injustice in the present- day. (100 marks)

b. Using at least one detailed example, discuss how citizens and activists in the United States have challenged the unjust and violent legacies of slavery in the past and/or present. (100 marks)
