Amy’s Case Study: 13 y/o student enrolled in Year 8
Since commencing high school this year, Amy’s academic results have dropped significantly over the past few months. She has lost interest in completing schoolwork and participates little in class. She regularly misses days from school and, when she is there, frequently isolates herself at break times and asks to go home as she is feeling ill. Amy reports that she feels chest pain and difficulty breathing. Her teachers are concerned as to whether there may be any physical or mental health issues impacting Amy’s presentation at school. Amy’s mother reported that Amy was born prematurely and has been identified with developmental delays and learning issues. During her early years of life, she had witnessed verbal and physical violence. Amy’s mother is quite concerned about her situation as Amy is more isolated and avoids any interactions.
