Before attempting this assignment, make sure that you have submitted Formal Essay 4.
Daily Writing 5.1 is a writing assignment, but not an essay assignment. The importance of prewriting an essay cannot be overemphasized. A cluster (concept map) is an effective method to prewrite; a list like in Week 4 is another method. Think of prewriting as a step-by-step abbreviated design that will lead to drafting a complete essay.
Brainstorm a brief description of the different departments of a twenty-first century brick and mortar sports merchandise center. Use a choice of one of the following: Bass Pro Shops, Academy + Outdoors, Alabama Outdoors, Simmons Sporting Goods of Alabama, Hibbett, or Field and Stream.
Do not use a sports merchandise department inside a larger department store such as Target or Wal-Mart.
Using a formal outline format like in the Buddy example (see link below), develop a formal outline for a “division-classification” essay based on your abbreviated description of the different departments. Outline a minimum of three departments.
CAUTION: This is not another informal listing like in Week 4. This is a more formal outline. Your outline format must conform to the Buddy example, including correct indentations. Formatting counts.

Note that this type of outline requires more structure than the simple listing of ideas in last week’s prewriting activity. However, complete sentences are not required in this type of outline but do use the same formatting and numbering system in the above example: Roman numerals for the main ideas and uppercase letters for the subcategories.
Proofread and finalize your D-C outline.
This Is the Assignment
Based on your 5.1 outline, visualize accompanying a friend, a goat milker who is visiting from the country of Slobovia, on a tour through several departments of the sports merchandise center in your outline.
Understand that Slobovia, a Third-World sovereign nation in Eastern Europe, has no large shopping centers or sports merchandise centers of any kind, so your Slobovian friend, who just immigrated to America (legally by respecting and obeying America’s laws), has no shopping center experience. Assume that English, the most powerful language in the Milky Way, is the native language of Slobovia. Language cannot be a factor in this essay.
CAUTION: Do not use any country other than Slobovia.
Using the third-person point of view about your Slobovian friend, compose a division-classification essay (minimum 400 words, maximum 500 words) about a shopping trip to a sports merchandise center. Name that center in every paragraph.
Remember, in this third person assignment, you are writing about your friend, not for or as your friend, and only one person, your friend, should be mentioned by name in this essay, not even you.
Include your Slobovian friend’s name in every paragraph, for example, Amélie. Do not use any other names of people or stores in this essay.

Avoid going into such detail as the price of every item.
If anyone lives in JumpBack Junction, Georgia, and never heard of a sports merchandise center, view a short video (3:32) of a Bass Pro Shops tour. The sound is entertaining but not required.
