Use the attachments to write a Background and Literature review for a Capstone project titled
“Puerto Rico Blossoms Soccer Academy.” This nonprofit aims to provide free access to elite soccer training to girls ages (7-18) from disadvantaged families and remote parts of the island. The program’s ultimate goal is that by making elite-level soccer training more accessible to girls on the island, participation will increase, and more pathways to professional leagues will be created. The thesis statement is: “The disparity in the performance of Puerto Rico’s women’s soccer teams compared to other CONCACAF teams can be attributed to three primary factors: the limited pool of players, stemming from both a smaller population and soccer’s limited cultural prominence in Puerto Rico; unequal access to elite training programs, particularly for players from rural regions and low-income families; and a shortage of professional opportunities, including an underdeveloped professional league and insufficient ties with international leagues and agents. A comprehensive soccer program is essential to address these challenges and elevate the Puerto Rican National Team’s standing. This program should provide equitable access to elite training and resources, foster development from the grassroots level, and establish pathways to professional play, thereby nurturing a generation of athletes capable of competing on the international stage and transforming the landscape of women’s soccer in Puerto Rico.”
