Assignment Overview:
In this assignment, you will critically evaluate a K-12 lesson plan using the PICRAT model. By analyzing the technology integration within the plan, you will assess its potential effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
Instructions:
Select a K-12 Lesson Plan: Use Lesson Plan A
Apply the PICRAT Model: Carefully analyze the lesson plan and identify how technology is integrated within it. Consider the following questions for each element of the PICRAT model and use the PICRAT Matrix:
PIC (Passive, Interactive, Creative):
At what level does the technology require student engagement (passive, interactive, or creative)?
Are there opportunities for students to use the technology in original and creative ways?
RAT (Replacement, Amplification, Transformation):
How does the technology used in the lesson compare to traditional teaching methods? Does it simply replace existing practices, amplify them, or transform them in a significant way?
To what extent does the technology enhance student learning and achieve the lesson objectives?
Evaluation and Recommendations:
Based on your analysis, create a detailed evaluation of the lesson plan’s technology integration. Consider the strengths and weaknesses of the technology use in light of the PICRAT model.
Identify specific areas where the lesson plan could be improved to enhance student engagement, learning outcomes, and effective technology integration. Suggest alternative technological tools or strategies that could be implemented based on the PICRAT framework.
Presentation and Discussion:
Prepare a written report summarizing your analysis and recommendations. Be sure to clearly explain your application of the PICRAT model and provide the rationale for your suggestions.
