This essay would be scholarly commentaries and close-readings–analysis of the literary works under discussion or some of the more substantial theoretical works.
The essay needs to pursue a focused argument pertaining to the form/content of the novel being discuss. How does it work as literature? And how does their formal properties convey and comment on their themes? In other words—how does this book work? These are very short exercises so it is better to maintain laser focus on a specific aspect of the text and its functioning as literature. There is no space for generalities here—you need to treat every sentence as addressing the utmost specificity in terms of how the novels function as literature.
