Two replies:
For this week’s discussion topic, define the term “Supply Chain.” The term is used freely these days, but what does it mean?
What is the definition of the term Supply Chain? In my own words, the supply chain is the management of raw materials for production, transportation, storage, and delivery. The Supply Chain also influences the flow of goods, products, and services across the supply chain network through suppliers, distributors, retailers, and manufacturers to create a product or goods that meets the consumers’ demands. It’s tailored towards reducing cost, increasing quality, quantity, and efficiency, and improving customer satisfaction to continue purchasing power (Pace, 2023).
What might the term “Supply Chain” cover that is not included under the term “Logistics.”
Let’s try to identify what is covered in the Supply Chain but not included under the term Logistics. Logistics is the process of planning, implementing, and controlling the efficient, effective forward and reverse flow and storage of goods, services, and information between points of origin and consumption to meet consumer needs (Ameliakling, 2024). Logistics utilize transportation, warehousing, packaging, and distribution centers to move and position inventories throughout the supply chain to make it run smoothly. After identifying logistics, we see the storage flow of inbound and outbound goods, services, and information to consumer consumption’s beginning and ending points.
This week’s topics are the definition of the supply chain versus logistics.
The lesson had us identify a definition of Supply Chain and what terms were not covered in logistics. These two conjoin to make an effective process to procure products and goods for the consumer but utilize different systems. Supply Chain oversees the creation of a product from start to finish while ensuring the product meets consumer satisfaction at purchase. Logistics plans the movement, storage, and distribution of raw materials and final products, which assist in the supply chain’s network.

Second Post:
Hello class,
Supply chain encompasses the entire lifecycle of a product, starting from the sourcing and shipment of raw materials needed for its production through its delivery to the point of sale. It involves multiple departments such as procurement, production, transportation, warehousing, distribution, and customer service. The supply chain aims to create an uninterrupted, cost-effective flow between consumer demand and the delivery of finished goods(Tompkins, 2024) .
A perfect example would be the current company I work for. We are a manufacturing company that supply parts to Hyundai and kia for their new electric vehicles. Although we do not provide the main part which is the battery our part is needed to complete the transition into the vehicle so that it can run. I purchase materials from suppliers to help build our part. As stated in one of our readings purchasing is an important role of supply chain because you are building the relationships with vendors and making sure things are cost effective but also a good quality. Not only is my job important but everyone pours into another to get the best results.
I have also worked in the logistics world which focuses more on the movement and storage of goods within the supply chain. It includes activities related to transportation, inventory management, warehousing, packaging, and order fulfillment.
