Topic: Veterans Mental Health
In this four-part 6-page (double-spaced) paper, students will describe a current, specific social injustice affecting a particular population(s) or community, how this injustice impacts the health of affected populations, linkages to the social determinants of health, strategies/actions that have been attempted or used to address this injustice, and recommendations.
This is a research paper that should be based on current scientific evidence.  A minimum of 5 peer-reviewed sources must be included. The bibliography/references, and any tables or figures do not count towards the page count. Use APA formatting for all aspects of this paper.  Your work on this paper must be an original composition. Thus, please do not submit work that has been submitted in other courses as this will result in a deduction of points and possibly a zero for the assignment. Also, please see university policy on plagiarism included in the syllabus.
The paper must include the following clearly-defined sections in addition to a title page and references:
A. Problem Statement (~1 page): Identify a specific social justice problem related to the one of the themes discussed in the course, discuss equity and social justice issues related to the problem (including the population), and explain the importance of addressing the problem from a health equity perspective.
B. Connection to Health (~2 pages): (literature review section) Explain how the social justice problem affects health. This section is primarily based on a review of the peer-reviewed research literature and should outline specific health related outcomes for the population.
C. Current Action (~2 pages): Discuss current actions to address the social justice problem, challenges encountered, progress in addressing the problem, and remaining needs. This section may draw on a variety of sources including peer-reviewed research literature, news articles, and reports from advocacy and community groups.
D. Recommendations (~1 page): Provide recommendations for addressing the social justice problem, identify strategies for implementation, and assess potential challenges and limitations.
