Topic: Our readings this section consisted of letters that project toward the future, to community, and to the potential of solidarity. Our artists and authors imagine and dream of what the future can be. This is your research project.
What is the free future?
You can tackle this question in a variety of ways. I will begin by noting that you’ll need 5-7 sources – don’t get scared yet. You can lean this toward the creative or to the critical (because, for me, the freed future doesn’t discriminate the quality of thought based on the form utilized).
The thing that stands is that your analysis and support needs to remain sound. You are open to shape this closer to the personal narrative or historical dive you did in Essay(s) #1, the critical paper you did next; any of the letters, essays, poems, and stories you read; and/or something completely new. I do love me play and screenwriting, song writing, album making, especially visual zines and photo essays, and more.
You have the following five topics to braid as you will (think of how many of the artists contain multiple ideas in a singular work):
Decolonial Lessons
Mental Health & Wellness
Multicultural Identities
Queer Solidarities
The “Indebted”
Advice: Be specific. Be dreamy. Do not be contained. Make it big. Tackle small.
NOTE: As we approach the end of the semester, there will be sign-ups to present your material during the last two days of class. We’ll speak more on presentations next week. Those that volunteer for the first day will receive a small credit boost.
Some possible projects:
Academic Essays; Research Paper; Creative Nonfiction/Blended Narrative Essays; Creative Writing (Letter Series, Short Stories, Vignettes, Script Writing, Poetry Collection, Song Writing); Visual Works (Zines, Drawings, Comics, Photo Essays, Powerpoint, Videos, Paintings/Drawings); Experimental Forms (Website, Workbook, Tactile Projects, Blended Works, Playlists, Album Making, Movement, & more)
In this case I pick Powerpoint
Project Guidelines:
The work should culminate into something akin or approximate to 6-8 pages typed, double spaced, with 1” margins.
In the case of creative works that are not text based, you will need to have a short accompanying 2-3 pg. paper describing the critical nature of the work.
In the event of quotes, utilize correct in-text citations (for creative works, you can utilize an abstract in your Works Cited to explain how the quotes/sources are functioning in your work).
Check and double check your MLA.
Make sure your project has a clear sense of theme, introduction, body, and ending.
