Throughout this semester, we have explored the role institutions play in oppressing and uplifting African Americans. For this research paper, you will select one institution and analyze its impact on African Americans. To guide everyone in their writing process, I have included questions which hopefully will help frame your main ideas. Although I provide these questions to assist in the writing process, I do not expect all of the questions to be addressed in your paper.
Questions:
1) How did that particular institution oppress African Americans?
2) In conjunction with other systems, how did that institution assist in marginalizing African Americans?
3) Why was the institution created to restrict African Americans?
4) How did the institution benefit African Americans?
5) How did African Americans gain access to that institution?
6) Where does that institution stand in regards to African Americans today?
