Throughout the semester, you have written about one person in the Assigned Country, and then a non-profit organization. For this final assignment, choose a real FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION from your assigned country, conduct your background research on this organization, and write a story from their perspective. Your FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION could be anything from a multinational corporation, a state-owned company, to a local manufacturing plant, or a family-run small business.
The purpose of this news story is to report on your company’s actions with a focus on local actions or changes meant to protect the environment and/or mitigate environmental concerns created by their past business practices. Consider all the global challenges and key issues you have studied in this class. Consider how these issues will affect YOU directly, during or immediately after your time as a student?
Establish the connection or comparison points with your previous assignments (individual and nonprofit organization) in the context of global challenges and how they are experienced in you assigned country.
Essay specifications: about 1,500 words; address EACH of the writing prompts below, in the order provided. Plan to write 1-2 paragraphs for each prompt.
Reference AT LEAST FIVE key concepts from readings and learning materials covered in Weeks 4-6 as they would be experienced by your FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION. Bold key terms in text.
Writing prompts:
What is the name of your for-profit organization? What does it make/sell? Who are the key consumers/buyers? Who works for this organization? What do people say about working for this organization?
What is the impact of your company, its products, and practices on the local environment?
What resources are most affected (ie: land, water, air, climate)?
How would your individuals or organizations be impacted by the environmental consequences of your business? Are they influenced directly or indirectly?
(HINT: This would be more general in a press release, but think about your specific individual and organizational identity from Blogs #1 & #2 as you formulate this section).
What is your company doing to combat these problems?
What are some of the big accomplishments or charges your company will undertake to accomplish its goals locally or at a higher scale?
What are some of the potential difficulties in achieving your company’s environmental goals and how do you plan to overcome them?
