This week’s writing prompt asks you to reflect on your relationship to literacy

April 15, 2024

This week’s writing prompt asks you to reflect on your relationship to literacy and the writing process in two parts:
Part 1: Milestone 1 Process Page
Reflect on your writing process for Milestone 1 by completing the Process Page.
For each milestone in this class, you will be asked to write a process page. In the future, you should complete the process page for each milestone independently and submit it, along with the milestone, to the appropriate milestone assignment dropbox by the assignment due date.
Submit your process page to the Milestone 1 assignment dropbox by 11:59 pm CST Wednesday.
Part 2: Discussion Post
Describe a literacy event from your past. A literacy event is any event that revolves around communication: writing, reading, speaking, etc. (See examples below). Answer the following questions:
How did this event affect your relationship with writing, reading, or both?
How do you feel about writing/reading today?
What are your strengths? In what areas would you like to improve?
What are 2-3 specific literacy goals you’d like to set for yourself this quarter?
Literacy Event Examples: having a favorite bedtime story read to you as a child; being introduced to a book/story that sparked your interest; writing your own short story, poem, etc.; sharing your writing with others (sharing with peers in your class, performing at an open-mic event, etc.); getting feedback from a teacher on an essay (whether positive or negative); reading comic books or graphic novels; identifying strongly with a specific character in a story; a first or important trip to the library or bookstore; learning a language through reading/writing, etc.
Instructions:
Your initial post (approximately 200-250 words) should address each question in the discussion directions and is due by 11:59 PM Central Time on Wednesday.
