This week you have read works written by two very important people of this time periods. They are Harriet Beecher Stowe and Frederick Douglas. Now that you have read the literature for the week you will answer the following discussion questions about it. Please, as always, remember to answer each question In paragraph form. An effective paragraph should be at least five sentences.
1. Before reading the the literature this week were you familiar with Harriet Beecher Stowe? If so what did you know about her or her literature? Had you read any of her work before this? If not what did you expect just by reading the tiles and the name of the author?
2. Before this week were you familiar with Frederick Douglas? If so what did you know about him? What works of his were you familiar with? If not, what did you think just by reading the title and or the authors name?
3. What themes did you find to be important in Stowe’s work? Why do you think it is important? What themes did you find to be important in Douglas’s work? Why do you think it is important?
Discussion Posts:
Every week there will be one or two discussion posts that each student will be required
to participate in. There will be a topic or questions being posed about the reading for
the week or the topic being discussed. The rules for this are quite simple:
● Each post needs to be at least three full paragraphs.
● Evidence from the texts or texts needs to be provided. If there is no evidence to back
up your claim, then it will not be considered valid.
● Each student is required to respond to two of their peers for each discussion post.
This is part of the grade given for this section of the grading policy.
● When responding, the response needs to be AT LEAST one paragraph each. It should
be more than “I agree with what you have to say” or “ I like what you had to say”.
● You should provide specific evidence from the peers’ posts to back what you have
pointed out in their posts.? Why?
