This study aims to explore whether Acar et al. (2020) and Vincente-Benito and del Valle Ramirez-Duran′s (2023) excessive social media use patterns, when coupled with Shutzman and Gershy’s (2023) theory of the protective role of parenting, can reduce negative results associated with addictive/abusive use of social media by adolescents and young adults.
The excessive use of social media by young adults and adolescents, as described in the studies by Acar et al. (2020) and Vincente-Benito and del Valle Ramirez-Duran (2023), has been shown to have detrimental effects. However, these adverse outcomes can be mitigated by incorporating Shutzman and Gershy′s (2023) theory on the protective role of parenting. Through this approach, we can create a safer and healthier social media environment that promotes responsible usage and reduces the risk of addiction and abuse among young users. By addressing this issue head-on, we can ensure that the next generation of social media users is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to maneuver the social media scenery cautiously and responsibly.
