This stage of life as I recall were days filled with play and plotting the next thing to do. I remember wanting to stay up late to make sure I didn’t miss anything. This was the day in which sleep overs were cool and you had one every weekend. At these sleepovers we would eat junk food, preform magic (stiff as a board, light as a feather), and play games. These were the days. No adult supervision except for the occasional mom peek in, we would stay up till the sun came up and we would just hang out with friends. No technology nor were there many video games, we just had each other and our imaginations. Today as I reflect back on my own children and when they were in this stage I see that many things have changed but many things are similar. They grew up in the day and age of technology which changed the social ballgame but I still observed that they also enjoyed playing some of the same games I did with my friends and family. I see there to be a certain attraction to the board and card games of yesterday still bringing friends and family together today and some of them are now played on the technological platform which is on a whole other level when it comes to the risk/ reward in the middle childhood developmental aspects. For this discussion, you are to reflect back on your grade school years, especially the latter end of the stage (9-11). Reflect on how you spent time with friends and family. What types of things did you do with them, how did you do these things, and why you did do these things. Tell us your story of your middle childhood experiences.
