In this assignment, you will identify ethical dilemmas and social justice issues social workers will encounter in mental health systems. You should outline your paper to include the following content:
Introduction
Briefly introduce topics presented in your paper. Include your thesis statement.
Ethical Dilemmas
Identify and explain ethical principles, as outlined in the NASW Code of Ethics, that may be in conflict with mental health service delivery; Discuss ethical concerns social workers may have when using the DSM-5 and when working with clients who are diagnosed with mental health conditions.
Social Justice Issues
Describe social justice issues – such as racial and ethnic discrimination, gender bias, socioeconomic disadvantages – present in the mental health system in America and/or globally. You might include the role of stigma, issues with access to care and other barriers to receiving treatment.
Social Workers as Advocates
Discuss how social workers can serve as advocates within systems of mental health to uphold social work values and advocate for social justice. Give specific examples of everyday things social workers can do while working with marginalized populations.
