This paper should be 5- to 10-pages in length (not including the title or reference pages)
and written using APA (current edition) format.
Because this is a research paper, it should
not be in first person.
You must have at least four (4) peer-reviewed scholarly resources
and cite them using APA Style (both with in-text citations and a reference page).
The four
sources should be no more than 10 years old unless they are a seminal work by an original
author.
In addition, census sources may be helpful in gathering statistics about the group
you chose – these sources would not be considered “peer-reviewed,” but will be important
in answering some of the following questions. (Support: 18 points)
In your paper, you must cover the following topics: use section headings based on the
questions (15 points each, total of 90 points):
• Statistics about this group. Possible information you might find includes the
following: What percent does this group represented in the population? What are
the statistics for this group regarding education, housing, employment etc.
• History of this group (what historical events have occurred that affected this group?)
• Multicultural and pluralistic trends of this group. Possible information might include
characteristics of your population (cultural beliefs or traditions, worldviews, etc.)
• Challenges that this population currently faces or has faced in the past (including
common prejudices towards or stereotypes of).
• Describe any benefits (if any) that individuals in this group might have experienced in
the past or may be experiencing currently. (e.g., affirmative action, scholarships,
etc.)
• What types of issues or problems might individuals from this group bring to
counseling and what might be appropriate interventions/methods/techniques to
assist them? Please also include how a counselor might advocate for them or help
them to advocate for themselves
