“Choose one of the three following questions to answer:
MST FINAL ASSIGNMENT: Develop and MST initial case conceptualization for either: A case you are currently working with (with a teenage-identified client with a high degree of acting out and/or substance abuse concerns) or The lead teen character is a popular movie that depicts adolescent struggle with enough detail about the adolescent and family dynamics to provide you with sufficient information to develop your clinical formulation (e.g., Thirteen or My Life as a House). Your clinical presentation (8-10 pages) should include a description of the main presenting concerns that would warrant MST intervention, with detail about the extent of the problem (severity, frequency, etc.). For example, ‘truancy, as evidenced by missed school three days per week since September.’ Identify at least three problem areas.
Develop a ‘fit circle’ for each of the identified problem areas. Make sure to include ‘drivers’ from each of the above domains, and to support your hypotheses with observable data. Make sure you have at least two to three drivers from each of the domains. Try to explain HOW you see that a driver is connected to the identified problem – for example, instead of saying for youth truancy ‘The mother dropped out of high school,’ identify a more proximal connection, such as ‘Mother has a strained relationship with son’s school based on her own negative school experience within the same high school.’ Your fit circles should be in your appendices, and do not count toward your overall page count. Pick two drivers from each fit circle that you would prioritize for intervention, and identify MST-compatible interventions that you would provide to begin to address the change. Remember that ecological intervention is prioritized over individual or insight-oriented treatment focus. Make sure to consider individual/family/communnity strengths that you would draw upon to support/facilitate change. Refer to the nine principles that are evident in your intervention. Use the
IICAPS FInal Assignment: Use the IICAPS tools (attached below) to learn about this client (John). Included in this packet are IICAPS referral and Critical Information Form, the IICAPS Written Assessment, and Strengths and Vulnerabilities. Within a 8-10 page paper, use your understanding of IICAPS model and the clinical data presented within the included tools to identify goals and action steps in each domain (child, family, school, and environemnt) that you might co-construct with the family to implement with John and his family. You must identify a minimum of two goals, each with two action steps, in each domain. Defend your choices by discussing why you have chosen a particular intervention or activity and how it might be related to the main problem and other goals using clinical data and your formulation. Identify any barriers that may impede progress in John’s treatment and describe how you might proactively manage these challenges.. And finally, defend why IICAPS would be an appropriate choice for treatment with his family. Keep in mind that a key to IICAPS is co-construction between the team and family so goals and action steps should be written in family-friendly language that is supported by clinical formulation. IICAPS works hard to meet the family where they are, paying attention to the key principles of transparency, practicality, and immediacy.
