This is the second of five Skill Development Exercise self-reflection journal entries. These reflective activities are intended to give you an opportunity to practice stress management strategies and reflect on the outcomes. The goal is to help you develop a stress management toolkit that you can use and share with others in your work or home life.
Self-esteem impacts how we perceive our stressors and manage our stress. Many people consider self-esteem a complex concept. Self-esteem fluctuates by what we think, feel, and how we communicate thoughts, feelings, and actions to ourselves and/or others. A strong self-esteem helps in managing stress. There are five factors that contribute toward a strong self-esteem.
In chapter 7 of your workbook, read exercise 7.9, Boosting Your Self-Esteem Download Boosting Your Self-Esteem. Then think about your threshold and what causes your self-esteem to fluctuate between high and low. Read, reflect and respond to the questions.
What is the relationship between your self-esteem and how well you manage stress?
What actions can you take to promote a sense of empowerment to keep your self-esteem high and strong?
Describe your support system with examples of these three characteristics: 1) highlighting your uniqueness; 2) modeling with a mentor or role model; and 3) connecting by bonding and belonging with others through friends and/or support groups.
Your work should be submitted in a 1-2-page double-spaced Word document. This is a skill-building exercise. No references are required. However, if you use any source material beyond the textbook exercise, including course materials or external sources, you must cite your references using APA formatting for both in-text citations and reference pages.
