This is my topic that I’m doing presentation on/ project is: “Legislation should mandate comprehensive regulations to significantly improve the working conditions for below-the-line members in the entertainment industry, including provisions for fair wages, safe working environments, and adequate rest periods.”
Here’s the outline I made for it:
The show business is famous for its stressful and endless working hours, which eventually prevent them from having a healthy work-life balance and even cause burnout or health problems for people supporting such events. Adopting the rules about fair wages, a secure work environment, and sufficient rest time can improve the conditions (Venkatesh, et al. 63).
Argument
For better entertainment industry working conditions, guidelines need to make fair wages, protected workplaces and resting periods for the below-the-line workers. This act should establish common rungs for production companies as well as employers. The standards should, on top of this, be complemented with sanctions for violations. These policies could assure that the live industry is safer and proper to everyone.
Counterargument
Opponents might say that setting the regulations will increase production costs and make the sector less competitive. Moreover, another difference of opinion is that they should individually negotiate the terms and conditions for the workers with the employers.
Rebuttal
Many of the extra costs that result from introducing these regulations may be recovered through long-term gains. In this way, all the workers are secured with unbiased treatment standards and a safer working environment. The negotiations between individual workers and employers without any regulations result in unequal outcomes, which means legislations are very much needed to guarantee that minimum standards are met for the workers in the industry.
To sum up everything stated above, it is of prime importance to incorporate a regulatory framework covering the entire ANE for the workers to receive reasonable pay, toil in a safe environment, and get enough rest. While this might be very expensive initially, having all the industries adhere to the set standards will shield the workers from exploitation and ensure their rights and protections are observed
READ CAREFULLY!
Go through ALL of the following 30 items below, one by one, and apply each to your presentation. (Trust me, if you don’t do this, it will be obvious when you present.)
Focus on professionalism. If it looks like a high-schooler did it, that’s not good. Would you show it at work if a promotion was on the line?
No fancy fonts just because you like them. Make choices that fit and help your argument, not distract your audience.
No table of contents, guide page, lists of sources/references/bibliography/citations, etc.
SPELL CHECK!
Be consistent, and have a clear and limited color palette.
Be sure it is readable, not visually jarring.
Don’t have black or red or blue letters on mid-to-dark grey, black, blue, red, or green. And don’t have colored text with white highlighting. In fact, I’ve never seen highlighting look good. If you need/want color behind your text, use text boxes with semi-transparent or opaque background colors.
Try to avoid using assignment headings (Topic Statement, Facts, Argument, etc.)
Have a title slide and a Thank You (ending) slide.
Be sure you cover the four areas clearly.
In your Facts, you must make a clear statement about any positive progress over the last 10 years in the area of your concern. If you don’t think there have been any improvements in that period, then you must say that too.
SPELL CHECK!
Pick a font and simple color palette and stick to it. In fact, probably best to pick one font (sans serif probably, and not bubbly or fancy) and only vary the type size for headings, sub-headings, and content.
Do NOT include pixilated/blurry images.
It is a visual presentation that supports what you will be saying.
Do NOT just read from your slides. Very limited reading!
No embedded videos or HTML links.
Suggestion: Mix things up every other slide or so. How about every other page is a solid image (high res of course) with text on top of it? (If you do that, be sure the text is readable – adjust text color, but stay in your color palette. If needed, due to the background image, put the text in a text box with a transparent or semi-transparent background.)
Generally, the fewer words the better.
SPELL CHECK!
Plan for how you will stay within your allocated 5 minutes! (practice it.)
Do NOT just have a template and words.
Make sure it is visually interesting.
No bibliography or citations.
Own every square centimeter.
Read the rubric and be sure you are earning max points.
Don’t turn in your script or notes unless I specifically ask you to.
SPELL CHECK!
Remember, your active (not just logging in and leaving the room) attendance during all of BOTH of the Presentation Days is mandatory. Plan ahead! (As stated in the syllabus, your lack of active presence on those two days will result in a 0 on this Presentation.)
Return to #1 and go back through these one-by-one, again.
(The presentation should include all the following such as listed above 👆)
Upload ONLY a PDF of a Draft of your presentation (in whatever format that you will present it).
For example, if you will present it as a PowerPoint, then your Draft should be a PDF of a PowerPoint.
If you are doing a Prezi, then put the link on a Word Doc or something, and make it as a PDF, and upload that.
You don’t have to include the art/design/aesthetics of your presentation in this Draft, BUT be aware that THIS is your chance to get my opinion/thoughts on the art/design/aesthetics of your presentation. I will only comment on what you SHOW me (i.e. don’t tell me about what you are thinking to do, but show me). After this Draft, I won’t look at your presentation until you actually present it/turn it in.
Other things to remember:
No citations, bibliography, etc.
No embedded videos.
This is not a paper, but a visual presentation.
For the Presentation, you must turn in ONLY the PDF version of your PowerPoint or Prezi, and the associated
The draft outline of presentation should include:
Your presentation must clearly set out the following four required sections:
1.) the basic facts of my subject matter
2.) My argument (clear and specific)
3.) at one one counterargument
4.) An my rebuttal of that counterargument
The draft should clearly show you will address each of the above four sections
Also for outline draft presentation, turn in a pdf version of the PowerPoint or Prezi, and associated script/ notes.
